I have yet to find a better phone than my Droid X , paying less than 30 bucks a month on Verizon towers. While I am listening to my audiobook, I can post this entry, take a high resolution picture, and check one of my geocache locations (dos cacti por le presa), check the weather or even make a phone call. It is supposed to be a phone after all.

I must be blessed because I can do this from one of the most beautiful places on earth as you can see from these photos.

Ruidoso is a magical place, all of us who live here know that. If we take the time enjoy those views, a little each day, the wonders never cease.

Peace and quiet oh such bliss

the natural world will provide this,

so choose these areas to rest

and you will find peace is best.

Peace and quiet are God’s plan

but this has been ruined by man

as he bulldozes nature and brings on noise

oh where are the woods for the girls and boys.

The planet has so many quiet places,

find them and peace will come up aces,

sit amongst the forest ferns

and whisper low, taking turns.

Peace and quiet no sound around

just the ants moving on the ground,

leave the natural as it is

and get away from the noisy tizz.

Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico and also in other cultures throughout the world.

Dr. Cynthia Orozco At Eastern New Mexico university Ruidoso held a cultural event today in our humanities class and explained the holiday.

Celebration takes place on november first and second. I took some photos today of the altar that was built to honor the dead and Cynthia orozco allowed students to place photos of people in history to honor. Day of the dead is gaining popularity in the United States. Austin Texas has a annual parade for the day of the dead celebration.

The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico are traced back to the indigenous cultures  as long as 2500 – 3000 years ago.

What makes Ruidoso special?

There are 100 little things that I Get to experience that makes Ruidoso New Mexico special.

We get to sit down by the river or drive by and see millions of pine trees on a daily basis. It can be easy not to practice gratitude but to take it for granted.

Today I get to order a couple of burritos, 1 chicken and 1 bean. I can take them behind taco bell and sit by the river and watch ducks do duck things. For this I am truly grateful today to be a Ruidosan.

Snow in Ruidoso October 2011

snow in Ruidoso new mexico

Okay here we go winter of 2011 Ruidoso New Mexico!

I stayed across town last night and there was a good inch and a half to 2 inches of snow in Ruidoso from what I could tell. That was completely unexpected although a thunderstorm came in last night and it rained off and on throughout the night I really didn’t expect to see snow this morning but that was great!

I feel bad for the people who have homes in other places and don’t want to spend their winters in Ruidoso New Mexico. I’ll never understand it because that’s why I moved here to see the change of seasons. I lived in New England, Boston to be specific, for 15 years before I came back down south and I really got used to those cold New England winters and warm summers.

I should’ve taken a picture over there on the north side of town but I didn’t get around to taking a picture until I got back down in midtown where it was much warmer but you can still see our first snow of winter 2011 in Ruidoso.

I bought a cabin in midtown which was deeded in the 1920s and it was almost completely original well, at least on the outside. This summer I decided to redo the plumbing and get rid of the old cast-iron stuff that looked as if it had been around since the 1920s. I insulated the entire section under the house but I’d move the hot water heater out into the old cistern room which used to hold water in the 1920s when there were no other cabins or water sources except for the river around here. I haven’t gotten around to insulating that section so I’d better get busy and get it insulated because it looks like the cold weather is here.

And for those people who happen to be in Texas right now I truly feel sorry you don’t get to experience this. A fresh snow is one of God’s greatest wonders and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I love Ruidoso New Mexico!
