Downtown Ruidoso New Mexico
Ruidoso New Mexico in south-central New Mexico, is a mountain resort town with a long history of tourism. Ruidoso New Mexico is rapidly growing do to the beautiful scenery in the area and economy based on its reputation as a resort area. Ruidoso has many attractions: the Ruidoso Downs racetrack and the Ski Apache slopes ski area, the Mescalero Apache Indian ski resort on Sierra Blanca at 12,000 feet altitude. The Inn Of The Mountain Gods and the casino at the travel center is also run by the Mescalero Apache Indian tribe.
50 years ago Ruidoso was considered just another sleepy village in the mountains to many. Ruidoso has held a special place in the hearts of thousands who have visited here for its unique atmosphere. Anglos, Mexicans and Native Americans have lived side-by-side in this area for well over 100 years. The primary difficulty in development of the Ruidoso New Mexico area in the recent past has been the local water supply and zoning enforcement.
There is an ongoing debate and serious questions as to how the village will continue to supply water in the future.In 2006 a $12.6 million bond issue was approved for a new wastewater treatment plant which is now been put into place.
Ruidoso New Mexico is also the largest community in the County of Lincoln and is the economic center of the County.
There has been quite a bit of growth in Ruidoso over the past decade, in fact Ruidoso is the third fastest growing community in New Mexico. Because of the beauty of the Ruidoso community it tends to draw investment from individual business people and also from developers looking to take advantage of the opportunities in Ruidoso.
Ruidoso New Mexico continues to be the place of choice for big attractions such as the annual Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally and every summer hundreds of thousands come in for attractions like the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.
